The Oberinnviertler Seenplatte – Land of Lakes
The Upper Innviertel Lake District, located in the south western part of Upper Austria, is a holiday region with many charms. Unspoilt nature, quiet country roads, a rich variety of leisure activities and the hospitality of the region’s residents are the perfect ingredients for a truly memorable holiday – for families, singles and couples alike.

The charming village of Franking near the Holzöstersee is the place for you to go if you are looking for both, recreation in a quiet country setting as well as a large number of sporting activities to choose from. The lake is the starting point of several hiking and cycling tours and an excellent fishing ground. It offers an abundant variety of predatory fish such as catfish, pike, pike-perch, eel, carp and tench. Water and fish quality are excellent.
The idyllic villages of the Oberinnviertel Lake District offer perfect recreation for all guests. Beautiful moor lakes such as the Holzöstersee, one of Austria’s warmest lakes, are ideal for a day of swimming and relaxing. Or you can take a bicycle tour on the quiet country roads through the beautiful local scenery, through the Weilhartsforst forest, crossing a former peat cutting area. After a long day of cycling enjoy the hearty regional cuisine with homemade bacon, cider and other specialties in one of the numerous local taverns.
Horse lovers can indulge in the beauty of the Oberinnviertel Lake District on horseback or on a carriage. Hikers may explore the region on marked hiking trails. But there are many more activities to choose from: tennis courts, mini-golf courses, beach volleyball courts, fish ponds, shooting stands, asphalt curling alleys, a three-hole golf course, first-class restaurants as well as traditional taverns and a variety of accommodation facilities (hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfast, farm holidays, apartments, campgrounds) provide plenty of fun for everyone.
