Welcome to the World of Powder Snow

Zell am See

It is the most important holiday destination in all of Austria - and the friendliest one for family in all of Europe, too: Zell am See-Kaprun belongs to the most perfect holiday locations on an international scale. Since 1966, the two communities have been 'going together' as the 'Europa-Sportregion'. Guests from all over the world are thronging to get into the heart of the Pinzgau year after year.

From the peak all the way deep down into the valley, you can choose from a wide range of sporting and relaxation activities. Whether it is rafting, hiking, or aviating, there seems to be no end to the various activities that are on offer. The little ones will be taken care of by Lake Bunny Fridolin. Those who are a little more mature can enjoy the mountain panorama view of the region, for example, while on a leisurely boat trip across crystal clear Lake Zell.

In the 'Europa-Sportregion', variety is spelled with a capital 'V', especially as far as events, accommodation, and particularly as far as sports and leisure activities are concerned. Make use of everything that's on offer, choosing from a wide range of winter activities, from snowkiting to Nordic walking. In Zell am See-Kaprun it does not matter whether you are yearning for adventures or whether you are looking forward to simply relaxing for a while - your every need will be met. And that's a promise.

Things get quite high, with guests aviating between Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe. From lofty heights, one can really enjoy a unique view of the region, no matter which kind of glider you are using. Although parachuting delights do not even take half as much time, they are all the more intense. If that kind of a kick is not enough for you, you might want to opt for a tour 1,600 metres below the ground.

You can, of course, also venture out in a more classic fashion: the pistes of the region are 132 kilometres long, some are easy, others rather demanding. Go ahead and conquer them on a snowboard or a pair of skies. A more leisurely version of winter fun can easily be yours. Why not go for a ride in a romantic horse-drawn sleigh? And what about a winter hike? Or, you might want to go skating on frozen-over Lake Zell. You figure you will need to raise your body temperature after being out in the cold? No problem. The indoor fun pools of the 'Europa-Sportregion' are waiting just for you!

Zell am SeeBeginners or skis or carving pros - all winter sports fans will simply feel spoilt by 132 kilometres of downhill runs, spread out over 59 different pistes. The easy ones, marked in blue, are especially suitable for beginners. People who like it more active choose from 51 kilometres of red runs or opt for the slopes of the black category which are really hard to master. You have only just begun skiing? Our instructors can give you some valuable tips.

Snowboarders find the very best conditions for a symbiosis of art and extreme sport in the half-pipe on Schmittenhöhe or at the Funpark on Kitzsteinhorn, at an altitude of 2,900 metres. You can practise daring stunts there or leave the first trails in untouched snow here already in October: in the shadow of the 3,203-metre summit of Kitzsteinhorn, true après-ski feeling will set in even in midsummer.

The 'Europa-Sportregion' offers a well-prepared network of more than 200 kilometres of trails for the fans of cross-country skiing. Professional instructors show beginners how to do the 'double pole'. And the ski hire companies supply you with the suitable equipment for unspoilt snow fun. They offer not only skating and classic skis for the cross-country trails, but also the latest material for downhill skiing and snowboarding.
